England's Coach Tim Southee Uncertain on Ashes Participation
Tim Southee's last Test match for the Kiwis was versus England in the final month of 2024.
England's bowling consultant Southee is still working through the extent of his role will be during the forthcoming Ashes contest in the host nation.
The former Kiwi seamer is only likely to be present for the opening match because of his involvement in the ILT20 competition, which starts on 2 December in the United Arab Emirates.
The 36-year-old, 36, assumed a role as the English team's fast bowling consultant in the warmer months after taking 391 wickets in 107 Tests for New Zealand.
Commenting as the English team for the opening of three Twenty20 games against the Kiwis was announced, Southee said of his availability: "We're still working through the situation at the present time.
"We will determine the outcome over the coming days."
English bowling legend Stuart Broad had stated the Australian team as their "worst team since 2010", but Southee was in little doubt over what to expect during the series, which starts on November 21.
"I don't think there's at any time a poor Aussie side," Southee said.
"Our focus is firmly on what we're trying to do. In my opinion the caliber of [England's] side that's going out to the host country is brilliant.
"It should be an absolute cracker, that series. Not only [are|do] fans from both nations eagerly anticipate it, I believe the whole cricket world is."
But, prior to England head to the city of Perth for the first Ashes match, they face New Zealand in Christchurch on this Saturday.
