Iranian forces say they have struck a American military facility in Manama, as the country executed strikes across the region in retaliation for a significant and ongoing attack targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity close to the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any impact is uncertain and the United States has remained silent.
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house US military bases - stated they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry said it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the Middle East.
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the strikes on the Islamic Republic initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That initial attack - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on sites associated with the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the people of Iran to revolt against the regime.
In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military stated it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates announced that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems engaged the projectiles with great effectiveness and destroyed a number of missiles," it added.
The statement noted debris landed in a residential area in Abu Dhabi, causing some material damage and the death of one civilian.
The United States Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
