Isak Burglars Instructed to Repay Only £1 Per Person from £1.2 Million Heists
Members of an Italian clan of thieves who took more than £1.2 million worth of goods, including from former NUFC forward Isak, have been mandated to pay back only £1 per person.
Siblings Valentino Nikolov and Giacomo, their sister Jela and her child Charlie Jovanovic journeyed to the northeastern of England to raid three houses in spring 2024.
The group of four were jailed for between six and 10 years in May 2025.
At a criminal assets proceeding at the court, Jela and the Nikolov brothers were instructed to repay £1 per person while Charlie Jovanovic must hand over £1,135.
Particulars of the Break-ins
The court previously heard the group came by ferry in the UK on March 27, 2024 and employed a RV as their "headquarters", which they stationed at a service area and Durham service service stations while using a separate vehicle to search for properties and execute thefts.
On 31 March they stole over £1m of goods such as designer clothing, handbags, jewellery and a honor from a residence on Clayton Road in Jesmond, while the owners were on holiday.
The following night, the gang entered a house on a private road in Whitburn, and stole luxury bags, jewellery and footwear valued at over £100,000.
Following surveillance of the football club's training ground for two days, they then struck at the home of Sweden player Mr Isak in Darras Hall, Ponteland on 4 April, stealing ten thousand pounds in money, sixty-eight thousand pounds valued of jewelry and the player's £120,000 luxury car.
The gang, who were described by prosecutors as experienced touring thieves, wore hand coverings and face coverings, turned their phones on silent as they neared their targets and attached a license plate, which had been stolen from a garage in Chester-le-Street, on to their car with elastic bands.
They were apprehended in the Birmingham area on 13 April.
Legal Hearings and Rulings
Valentino Nikolov had pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to burglary but was convicted by jurors, while his family members had all submitted guilty pleas to the identical accusation.
At the criminal gains session, prosecutor the prosecution said every one of the burglars had benefited from their crimes to the amount of £1,266,285.93, which was determined by what the victims said they had had stolen.
But Charlie was the sole individual found to have any money that could be "recovered", specifically £1,135.50 which had previously been confiscated by police, the judge was informed, with 14 days to be spent in prison if he defaulted.
The other three had no assets or property so were ordered to pay a nominal fee of £1 per person, with one week in incarceration the consequence if the money was not paid.
Judge Spragg said if they were discovered with property in the future, "such as driving around in Italy in a sports car or owning a property", the prosecution could initiate further action to "satisfy the sum outstanding".
