New Jersey's top prosecutor leaves her post after court deems ineligible her appointment.
The ex-lawyer for the former president has left her position as the chief federal prosecutor in the state. This decision was prompted by a legal ruling that questioned her right to hold the office.
Attorney General's Statement
US Attorney General, the Attorney General, announced the prosecutor's departure on Monday. She commented that the appeals court finding made it unworkable for the official to effectively run her office.
"Do not interpret adherence to the ruling as defeat," she wrote. "This battle will now stretch across the country."
Court Ruling
Her resignation comes a week after a federal appellate panel ruled that she had been serving in violation of the law as the federal prosecutor. This judgment is likely to affect many prosecutions in the state.
The judicial panel declared that a temporary posting that did not receive Senate approval ran afoul of the statute on vacant positions.

Bondi said that Habba will continue working within the justice department as a high-level advisor. Habba plans to seek further review of the disqualification, with hopes of a different outcome.
On a social media platform, Bondi contended that judges "should not be able to countermand the executive's selection of lawyers entrusted with executing the executive branch's core responsibility of prosecuting crime."
