New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Incident

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and is confident the player will be OK after suffering a gunshot wound in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.

Glenn described that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was ā€œin good spiritsā€ during their recent conversation.

ā€œWhat reassures me, is that he’s feeling positive,ā€ Glenn commented. ā€œHis wife and his kid, they are doing well and he will come through this without issue.ā€

It remained unclear when Boyd might be released the medical facility, where his condition is described as in critical but steady condition.

ā€œNot certain at the moment,ā€ the coach said. ā€œYet I must mention, from our conversation, he felt really upbeat. And again, that puts my mind at ease, because of his outlook and he’s talking that way.ā€

New York police shared surveillance images earlier this week of a man sought in the shooting of Boyd. What prompted the attack is currently under review and officials stated it’s not clear if Boyd was targeted. There were no additional victims as confirmed by officials.

The shooting happened just after 2am on Sunday near Madison Square Garden and the iconic square. Boyd, in his late twenties, was admitted to Bellevue Hospital after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, according to authorities. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has been in his thoughts ā€œa great dealā€ since he heard about the shooting. He further stated that Boyd and his wife recently welcomed a child.

ā€œWhat immediately crossed my mind, he has a new baby,ā€ Glenn remarked. ā€œAnd I’m thinking about his wife, I’m thinking about his kid and I want to make sure that he’s OK. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
ā€œThere’s a process to this, which I won’t get into, but I am pleased that he will recover excellently.ā€

Boyd was inactive in the present campaign, his first with the Jets, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on 18 August with a shoulder injury that needed an operation.

He signed with New York as a free agent in March and was projected as an important component of an improved special teams group under the coach and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. However, he got hurt during a practice session on August 2 and had to be helped off.

Boyd has remained around the team throughout the season while working his way back.

ā€œHe has stayed engaged with the team,ā€ Glenn stated. ā€œCertainly, he attends every game. He’s fully engaged. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has been instrumental in guiding others.ā€

Boyd, a Texas native, played his first four seasons with Minnesota after getting drafted in the seventh round by Minnesota out of UT in 2019. He joined Arizona in last year and then joined Houston’s practice squad subsequently. Boyd inked a single-season agreement worth $1.6m with New York in March.
