This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.
Although not quite at the equivalent scale as sparing holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miamiâs iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
âThis pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,â stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the commencement of a new presidential term.
âExcept perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,â she went on. âI hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.â
This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, provided by a first responder, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting âsix sevenâ â inspired by a hip-hop line â often seemingly at random. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently made âsix-sevenâ its top term for the year.
A Future Secured
This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge âaway from grills and cookwareâ, according to the organizers' announcement.
âThe annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to begin the end-of-year celebrations,â said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
âIt captures the character of Miami: joyful, varied, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Every time, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.â
Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and cafecito as they marked Six Sevenâs big moment.
